Abstract

Image analysis of Permian Zechstein carbonate samples has aided quantification of pore geometry parameters. Total porosity has been measured, using image analysis, from randomly selected thin sections. These porosity measurements have then been compared to core analysis measurements of the same samples. Pore surface parameters derived from the image analysis can be used to characterize mouldic porosity, and to estimate permeability. Cumulative porosity curves related to pore section size are used to group the samples in classes with different pore geometry.
