Abstract

A new deformation scheme is presented for the Mulhacen Complex of the Betic Zone in southern Spain. This deformation scheme, which consists of six phases of superimposed penetrative deformation, is based on structural investigations in the contact zone with the overlying Alpujarride Complex. The newly obtained data imply that overthrusting by the Alpujarride Complex was the last major event in the deformational history of the Mulhacen Complex.
