A future for induced geothermal energy?

Abstract

The possibility of using geothermal energy in non-volcanic, normal areas is discussed. An attempt is made to apply this concept to the Netherlands, where the geothermal gradient is in general above the world's average. If geothermal heat production from non-volcanic areas will ever be feasible, technologically or economically, is still very uncertain.
