Abstract

Three lithofacies are distinguished in the Santa Lucía Formatíon: grainstone facies, packstone facies and birdseye facies. The lithofacies pattern suggests three depositional environments. An area of wave and current action (grainstone facies), a quiet and sometimes restricted lagoon protected by the extensive shallowness of the entire platform (packstone facies) and an intertidal to supratidal part (birdseye facies).
