Abstract

The occurrence of metamorphic minerals, like andalusite and cordierite indicating formation under low pressures, is described from the Elat area in Israel and the Sinai Precambrian. The study of the timing of metamorphism with regard to folding phases has shown that the metamorphism is progressive in time. The -possibility that the Precambrian of the Arabian shield belongs to a Hercynotype orogenic belt is discussed.
